Preorientation Curriculum: An Approach for Preparing Students with Heterogenous Backgrounds for Training in a Master of Biostatistics Program

We describe an innovative preorientation curriculum (POC) for a Master of Biostatistics (MB) program. The goal the POC is to fill critical skills gaps students entering MB program from heterogeneous backgrounds so they are prepared engage in program’s rigorous, fast-paced training upon arrival. To achieve this goal, we introduce structured approach thinking that forms foundation sound mental map Biostatistics, which will assist their subsequent efforts master discipline. Based on constructivist principles, covers mathematical and statistical theory, data analysis methods, programming, practice through sequence instruction encourages reflection, extension, connection between topics. modular, self-paced, offered online via cloud-hosted interactive learning management system (LMS).
